Learn to drive

Learning to drive is mainly a practical skill, as with all acquired skills ‘practice makes perfect’. There is also an element of knowledge that needs to be learnt, pupils are tested on this with the theory test. Theory tests are held at local test centres where candidates run through a set of computer generated questions, examples and videos. The test covers:

  • Driving and traffic law

  • Rules and signs on the road

  • Lines and markings on the road

  • Vehicle and Passenger safety requirements

The best resources to use to pass the theory test are the Highway Code and the Driving Manual.

The theory test should be studied at home combined with professional instruction, the most competent pupils normally practice what they have learnt in their lessons with a parent or friend who is over 21 and has held a full licence for more than 3 years.

Once you have gained the skills, then all you need is confidence! Your Instructor should have ability to help you gain confidence and steer you on the road to becoming a safe, thoughtful driver.
